Tackling a Hurricane
It was bad enough that Hurricane Katrina blew in and destroyed people’s homes and livelihoods when it struck southern Louisiana and Mississippi in September of 2005. Adding insult to that injury was the stench left behind by the rotting food products and animal carcasses that took weeks to clean out of city streets and other public areas.
“It was smelly. It was nasty. It was truly like working in the city dump,” recalled Mike Craft, the pest control division manager for Gulfport, Miss.-based Redd Pest Solutions. His company had the monumental task of dealing with the odor and flies that accompanied the daily bulldozing of garbage, excess sewage and remnants of homes and businesses as workers and residents tried to recover from the storm. His employees were also charged with the task of cleaning up the odor from the food products – such as chicken and pork bellies – that were washed out of the port’s freezers, where they were waiting to be shipped.
As they have for years, the pest management professionals (PMPs) at Redd Pest Solutions relied on Bac-Azap to tackle the odors. Manufactured by Nisus Corporation, Bac-Azap is a unique blend of natural organisms, including nonpathogenic bacteria and enzymes that work to encapsulate and neutralize any organic odor. The enzyme-producing bacteria in Bac-Azap literally consume and eliminate odors.
The product can be sprayed into the air or onto hard surfaces, or foamed into tight spaces.
