Responsible Care Initiative

Responsible Care® is a voluntary commitment from companies to improve their organization’s safety and sustainability performance beyond federal government requirements by focusing on all aspects of environmental health, safety and security along the value chain. Each year, Nisus transparently reports on its performance to the American Chemistry Council, as per the guidelines of the Responsible Care commitment. Nisus reports on a range of metrics, including:

  • Waste minimization/reuse/recycling
  • Water consumption
  • Greenhouse gas & energy efficiency
  • Hazardous air pollutants
  • OSHA injury incidence rate
  • Process Safety events

The goal of reporting annual metrics every year to the American Chemistry Council is to show continual improvement in these critical areas as we work towards lowering our environmental impact and bringing safety incidents closer and closer to zero. Because we care about our employees, our community and the environment as a whole, we are fully committed to the Responsible Care initiative.

Product Stewardship

Nisus Corporation believes safety and environmental health are critical elements of our business model. As we branch into new technologies and pursue new avenues of research, we evaluate and center our focus to support our mission of “Better Science for a Better World”. As part of our evaluation process, Nisus classifies its current and upcoming product lines to identify products we consider a high priority for safety monitoring. Product classification considers elements such as use pattern, product benefits, regulatory information and available safety data on the product.

Nisus uses the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) as adopted by OSHA to rank the hazards of each chemical. Products that are Category 1 for physical or health hazards are classified as high priority chemicals. High priority chemicals are a primary focus in Nisus’ chemical safety trainings, process safety measures and product evaluations. Every product we sell is evaluated for risk versus benefit to ensure that the benefits of our products always outweigh the risk of use.

All Nisus product labels contain proper use and safety instructions, and we maintain up-to-date safety information on our safety data sheets (SDS), as well. Nisus regularly evaluates use patterns on labels to ensure all uses labeled can be safely performed, and Nisus commits to the removal of applications and even entire products from its product line if necessary. Additionally, Nisus stays up to date on regulatory and safety information by reviewing scientific studies, as well as through involvement in organizations such as the Antimicrobial Exposure Assessment Task Force, Center for Biocide Chemistries, Treated Wood Council, American Wood Protection Association and many more. Information on Nisus products such as product descriptions, current product labels and SDSs are available in the industry tabs above, as well as in the Resources section of this website’s homepage.
